In this final Summer Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast for 2020, we hear from the Gospel of St. Matthew Jesus telling his disciples how to handle people who are not following the path and are in dispute with one another.  Do we turn over our differences to Christ and the Church?  Are we a people of justice and mercy?

In this Summer of Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, we hear the readings for the 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time.  In the Gospel of Matthew, we hear a "follow-up" to the Gospel of last week.  Last week, Peter was given the keys to the kingdom.  This week, Peter is rebuked by Jesus when he asks Jesus not to go to Jerusalem to suffer and die.  We can be like Peter - one day close to the Lord following Him, and the next day lose our way.  May the Lord give us the grace to stay on His path and move towards Him on our journey to holiness.

In this Summer Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast for the 21st Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear from the Gospel of St. Matthew as Jesus asks his Apostles who He is.  What would we say if Jesus asked us that question?  Who is Jesus to and for us?  Is He truly the Lord and center of our lives?  Would we know Him if we saw him?

In this Summer Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, we reflect on the readings for the 20th Sunday of Ordinary Time.  In the Gospel of St. Matthew, we hear about the pagan woman who encounters Jesus and perseveres in asking Jesus to heal her daughter.  Her perseverance is rewarded.  May we never give up praying, may we never waiver in our belief that Jesus is Lord who always hears our prayers and gives us what we truly need.

In this Summer Edition episode of the What is Truth Catholic podcast, we focus on the readings for the 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time.  In the Gospel of St. Matthew we hear the story of the disciples' journey in a boat.  A storm comes up and they are afraid.  Jesus appears walking on the water and tells them not to be afraid.  He calls Peter to follow him by walking towards Jesus.  Peter becomes afraid and sinks into the water.  Jesus saves him.  We are called to leave the safety of our boats and walk towards Jesus.  Do we walk to Jesus or do our fears cause us to sink?

In this episode of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast we focus on the readings for the 18th Sunday of Ordinary Time.  The Gospel this week is from St. Matthew and we hear the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000.  Jesus offers to feed us as well.  However, we need to look at what is on our diet.  Do we want to be filled by the food of the world and by the food that comes from God?  We all get hungry.  What will satisfy us?  What food do we want to eat?

In this episode of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast for the 17th Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear from the Gospel of St. Matthew about Jesus and the Kingdom of Heaven.  May we understand there is no greater gift we can receive from the Lord than the Kingdom of Heaven.  Our life on earth is our time to do our best to prepare ourselves for the Kingdom.  However, our efforts alone are not enough.  So let us pray to our Lord to help us, heal us,, and by His grace prepare ourselves for the Kingdom of Heaven.

In today's Gospel for the16th Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear Jesus relate the parable of the wheat and the weeds.  As we try to live the Christian life (wheat), we find that we are surrounded by weeds - the weeds of our sins, the weeds of the world including the weed of constantly needing to be entertained, to be busy, etc.  We struggle with the weeds of wanting control and wanting to be "free".  May we be willing to ask our Lord to remove the weeds of our lives and may we be willing to cooperate with the Lord in this effort.  May we always be wheat to help feed the world with the love of Christ.

In the Gospel for the 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Jesus shares the parable of the sower.  The sower (God) spreads the seed on the ground which represents us.  What kind of ground are we?  Are we rocky, dry, or fertile?  Does God's word grow within us or die, as we may not be paying attention or even rejecting His word.  Lord, help us to hear Your word and to be good ground where Your seeds will bear good fruit.

In this episode for the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, Jesus invites us to come to Him and we will find rest.  This is sometimes a challenging message for us, as we often believe we can do things for ourselves.  We often forget our dependence on God.  So let us remember who we are and who Jesus is.  We are the Lord's beloved creatures, His adopted sons and daughters.  We are not gods.  May we continue to surrender our lives to Him.

In the Gospel of Matthew for the 13th Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear the challenge of Jesus reminding us that we must be willing to give up our lives to be His disciples.  The call to following Christ is a path of many crosses and "deaths".  We must die to our sinfulness, selfishness, self-centeredness etc.  Lord, help us to die these deaths so that we may be, in our own human sinful way, worthy of You.  Lord, please give us the grace to do this.

Today's readings are for the 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time.  We hear Jesus tell His apostles not to fear anyone.  Our Lord does not want us to live our lives in fear; He knows that a fear-based life creates a barrier for us to follow Him.  We are called to live in faith - faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who gave everything He had for us; may we trust Him and put our lives in His hands.  After all, God is in control.

In this edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast for the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, we celebrate the most precious gift of God - the Eucharist.  As Catholics, we know that Jesus gave us His actual Body and Blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist.  This is the source and summit of our faith.  May we thank Jesus for this gift and when we receive His most precious Body and Blood, may we receive God into our hearts and minds to become more and more configured to Christ.

In this special edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast for the 5th Sunday of Easter, we hear Jesus tell us that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  Jesus is indeed the Truth.  We, who are living in the world, are told there are many truths - my truth, your truth, etc. and that we are to be tolerant of each other's truths.  The idea that we humans can make up our own truth is the ultimate lie of the evil one.  He did the same thing to Adam and Eve in the garden when he seduced them to eat from the forbidden tree to be like God.  So let us pray that during this Easter season we only listen to the Truth, the Truth that comes from our Lord Jesus Christ, the Truth that sets us free.

In this Easter edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast for the 3rd Sunday of Easter, we hear the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus and their encounter with who appears to be a stranger.  We too do not always recognize God in our midst - in the midst of our everyday lives, in the good and challenging moments of day to day living.  And yet, Jesus is present for all of that, whether we recognize him or not.  May we strive to recognize the Lord of our lives as He is there with us always.

As the Easter Season continues, we hear in the Gospel this week, our risen Lord's encounter with the Apostle Thomas.  It is easy for us to say that Thomas is a doubter, an unbeliever, and to see ourselves better than that.  Our Lord did not come to criticize Thomas for his humanity - actually, He came to die for our sinfulness.  We all doubt at times, we all struggle.  Jesus comes into our lives to offer us freedom from doubt and pain if we surrender our lives and our wills to Him.

in this Summer Edition of The What is Truth Catholic Podcast for August 25th, 2019, we hear the Gospel of St Luke.  in this gospel, Jesus is asked will few be saved. He tells the parable of the narrow gate, where few enter.  in the parable, many try to get through the gate. The Master of the House tells them that he does not know them.  Does God know us?  Do we allow Him into our lives?  These are some of the questions we are called to contemplate on this 21st Sunday of Ordinary Time.  May peace reign in our hearts.  Amen.

No podcast this week I am sorry to say.  My car needs a new transmission and I have to purchase a new car in a hurry.  Sometimes life is challenging to say the least.  But our Lord is always with us, especially in the big and small challenges in our lives.  God willing the podcast will be back in two weeks.  God Bless.
